The Second Sino-Indian Industry Cooperation Summit

I hear a lot of discussion about the competition between India and China.  In fact, I’ve been invited to speak at a conference on exactly that subject next month.  It should be fun and I’ll write more about it when I get a bit more background.

Sorry for the digression.  I wanted to highlight an event that got very little publicity in the US, although it seemed to get a fair bit of attention, at least among outsourcing companies, in India and China.  I’ve never been able to find a good page describing the event, so I’ll have to refer to it indirectly via a press release from The Symbio Group, whose CEO was one of the participants.

The event, “The Second Sino-Indian Industry Cooperation Summit” was organized by NASSCOM, and was held in Bangalore on 21-February.  According to Mr. Hsu, the discussion was really not on competition, but instead it focused on opportunities for collaboration and cooperation.  I think that this is very healthy for the industry, and I’m glad to see that small steps are being taken to allow companies to compete on their own merits, rather than just coasting on their respective country’s momentum.

These issues bear watching for anyone in the industry, because the first companies from India and China that really figure out how to work with each other and can truly leverage regional strengths is really going to create a powerhouse.

Gartner Outsourcing Summit 2006

The Gartner Outsourcing Summit 2006 is coming up April 3-5 in Orlando.  This year’s event will be especially noteworthy due to a special pavilion in the event’s exhibition space to highlight Chinese software outsourcing vendors.  In addition to the pavilion, some of China’s leading outsourcing experts will be addressing sessions of the conference and some of the Chinese company’s clients will also be speaking at the conference.  If you’re interested in how the Chinese software outsourcing industry is developing, this will be an excellent opportunity to meet some of the vendors and also get a perspective from the clients’ side.

I’ll be there soaking it all in.
